Melbourne Cup 2009

It's Cup Day again and I've got a tip for you. Come in to our Gallery at the Sofitel Wentworth today. We're lucky enough to have Alister Simpson in again. He's not a Trainer or a Jockey but he knows a thing or two about race horses. He's been painting them for more than 30 years and he's been up close and personal with the best of the best.

When Wentworth Galleries reproduced a series of Alister Simpson studies I was responsible for the colour correction of the Limited Edition prints. It was a remarkable experience that showed me just how much someone can know about horses, their ability and their anatomy. "The light shining between the 3rd and 4th rib on Sunline is a little dull. Sunline has a particularly pronounced muscle there and we need to bring that out more" is something Alister might have said during these session. He knows all there is to know about horses. Just his sketch notes have more information in them that most punters will ever know.

Due to overwhelming demand from those that missed out, Alister will be signing his book again today (Melbourne Cup Day) at the Gallery - 61 Phillip Street Sydney. The books are superbly produced and make excellent gifts. Christmas is just around the corner.

Come in, have a glass of Champagne and you might just back the winner.
