Starting this Australia day we have a very important exhibition opening at 17 Bligh Street showcasing many of the biggest names in Aboriginal Art. Included in the exhibition will be works by the 2008 Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award Winner, Makinti Napanangka. Even prior to taking top honours in the awards, Makinti was described as the Central Desert's "best painter since Emily Kngwarreye".
Also on display will be some superb new works entitled "My Mothers Country" by Barbara Weir. Barbara Weir has just been listed as one of Australia's top 50 most collectable artists and upon viewing these exsquisite pieces it's easy to see why.
Also showing will be paintings by Kathleen Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre, Ningura Napurrula, Dorothy Napangardi, Barney Ellaga, Minnie Pwerle and many more. Not only are these big names in Aboriginal art, they are big names in art, full stop.
This will be a wonderful exhibition packed with truly collectable art.
